Aries is a fire sign and as such suggests that people born under this sign are action
oriented, passionate, and very energetic. When combined with other elements, fire will feel that water will put it out, earth will suffocate it, but that air will fan its’ flames.
Since Aries is a cardinal sign, it is associated with people who are creative and take the
initiative.
Aries is ruled by Mars. While most heavenly bodies are referred to as planets’, the Moon and Sun are referred to as lights’. Planets literally mean wanderers’. Therefore, Aries would be ruled by a planet’.
In order to better understand a reading’, the following is a little bit of history and methods.
There is a traditional belief in astrology in which the idea is that the moon, sun, and the planets are much more powerful and more effective in some signs than in others. This is because the belief is that the nature of both planets and the moon or sun is held to be in harmony. There is also a belief that the moon, sun, and planets are held to find that some signs can be weak or even difficult to function in due to their very natures and this is called conflict’.
A planet is considered to be strong or strengthened (dignified) only if it is within the
sign that it rules. (A king on a throne is said to be dignified.) If a planet winds up in a sign that is the opposite of the sign which it rules, it is called weak’ or weakened’ (detriment). This is referred to as essential dignity’.
Accidental dignity’ is the planet’s ability to act. This is achieved by the placement of
the house in a chart. Any planets that are in the succedent’ houses of a chart (such as the 2nd or 10th houses) are usually considered to have a medium ability to act.
Retrogradation’ is considered to be an accidental debility’ and can be described as causing combustion if under the sun.
A planet is considered to be strengthened when it is in its sign of exaltation’. Exaltation’ is an exaggerated level of dignity when compared to ruler ship’. More or less it means that the visiting’ planet, sun, or moon is an honored guest; one who is the center of attention and yet, limited in their actions.
On the other hand, a planet that is in the opposite sign of exaltation’ is in its’ fall’. This simply means that it is weakened, perhaps more than if it were in detriment’.
