Psychic spies go into remote viewing

How much truth is there that psychic spies are being trained by the US military in the film, Men who Stare at Goats?

Examiner.com reports that the US Military and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has dabbled in extra sensory perception and developed psychic spies through remote viewing.  The CIA has long been into mind research and experimentation in the late 1940s.  The first government-sponsored remote viewing program began in 1970.

And it was earlier known in the 1960s that the Soviets were doing ESP and psychic spying to break into US’ security barriers.

Remote viewing involves “trained individuals to go into a meditative state to access subtle levels of consciousness in which they are able to somehow sense remote locations and describe what they see there. The ability to view objects remotely has clear advantages for intelligence gathering”, Examiner.com reports.

What one cannot obtain through direct espionage can then be accessed through a meditative trance.  I can imagine you imaging someone in a lotus position as he goes on an astral travel in Soviet Union’s military files to obtain information. Kind of weird?

Not so.

The US’ top government officials contracted in  1972  with Stanford  Research Institute  to develop the first of several remote viewing programs which operated under code names such as Project Scan ate, Project Grill Flame, and the Stargate Project.

A secret contract even is believed to have been entered between the CIA and highly trained Scientologists at the inception of the CIA-initiated remote viewing program.

What does the American public think about this? Is it worth their taxpayers’ money to be spent on psychic trainings?
