Ironic: Men who Stare at Goats
What’s interesting about the film, Men who Stare at Goats? As wacky as it is with its meandering flow, the film does not present a real serious scenario about its apparent main intent of using the paranormal psychic powers as weapons in war. The comedy film instead makes fun of psychic capacities, like a soldier passing through the wall and instead, hitting his body and coming straight down the floor.
This supposedly psychic film while it promotes psychic powers is as spaced out and scattered as it defeats the purpose of what it apparently wants to show. Ironic. Unless, the intention is to make fun of the US Military’s use of paranormal phenomena and what is psychic.
While the supposedly psychic film shows Lyn Cassady (George Clooney) staring at and killing goats through his mind, it’ s much of an irony when the film shows psychic soldiers walking straight on the roof down the ground and fracturing themselves on the process.
Whoa…You will end up wondering what the film is trying to say.
The story tells about minor league reporter Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) who attempts to find a meaningful story and stumbles onto former soldier and “Jedi Warrior” Lyn Cassady. He finds himself in the Kuwait desert on a direct line to the story of the century: the Army trained psychic super-soldiers.
“Cassady is a shadowy figure who claims to be part of an experimental U.S. military unit. According to Cassady, the New Earth Army is changing the way wars are fought. A legion of warrior monks with unparalleled psychic powers can read the enemy’s thoughts, pass through solid walls, and even kill a goat simply by staring at it. Now, the programs founder, Bill Django (Jeff Bridges), has gone missing and Cassady’s mission is to find him. Intrigued by his new acquaintances far-fetched stories, Bob impulsively decides to accompany him on the search.”
The search goes on and amidst the wacky scenes; one would wonder where the search is leading.
